Earth2Class in Brazil
Dr. Cristiana Mattos Assumpção and Frederico Dalmas Baggio of São Paulo, Brasil,
have been key Leadership Members of the Earth2Class Workshops for Teachers
since our
beginning in 2000. Cristiana oversees integration of educational
technology strategies,
building on what she learned while earning her Masters and Doctorate degrees
from Teachers College, Columbia University, and subsequent research which has
made her one of the leaders in this field in Brasil. Fred created
our web
site and oversees our information technology structure.
Upon completion of
Cristiana's doctorate, they returned to their home in São Paulo, and have
continued to work closely with Dr. Michael Passow--in person when in the
USA
and electronically from Brazil. This section of the Website contains the "seeds"
for what we hope will eventually be a flourishing exchange, with physical visits
and virtual interactions, between Brasilian and American educators.
In February
2007, the E2C program took new and exciting paths when Mike first visited Cristiana and
Fred in São Paulo. We seek to create new opportunities for educators
in
the two countries to interact through E2C. Subsequent visits have further
broadened
our search for suitable locations where we may bring teachers for
mutual benefit.
One major result of our intercontinental cooperation was "Rain, Rocks, and
Climate"--the GIFT (Geophysical Information For Teachers) workshop at the
American Geophysical Union's "Meeting of the Americas" in Foz do Iguaçu (Iguassu
Falls), Brasil. Professors from two Brasilian universities planned for this with
Michael for two years. You can learn more about this workshop and the rest of
the conference at: 2010 American
Geophysical Union Joint Assembly in Brasil
Over the years, the E2C team has visited or interacted with many scientific
organizations and institutions in Brasil. Here are/veja mais
