The Space Show: Are We Alone?

1.      What questions have occurred to you as you are watching the Space Show?

 

Scales of the Universe

1.      What do the powers of 10 surrounding the Hayden Sphere represent?

2.      If the Hayden Sphere is the size of the human brain, how big is a raindrop?

3.      Name one moon of Saturn.

4.      Big Bang Movie:  Name some events that occurred in support of the Big Bang Theory.

 

Hall of Meteorites

1.      Create a chart of 8 different meteorites.  Find where they are from, year that they landed, and the weight of the meteorite.

2.      What is the composition of some types of meteorites?

3.      What are the 2 regions where most meteorites have fallen?

4.      Please view the movie in the Meteorite Theatre.

 

Hall of Minerals

  1. Find the following minerals and physically describe them:
    1. Pyrite                           Amethyst
    2. Gypsum                        Garnet
    3. Apatite                         Feldspar
    4. Topaz                           Fluorite
  2. Name some silicates.  Talk about their shape and cleavage.
  3. Name some common minerals that through the years have been used as gems for jewelry.  Include the hardness.
  4. BONUS:  What do you think is the best gem for jewelry?

  1. How is climate recorded in ice?
  2. What is El Nino?
  3. Name 5 different, recent Earth events for the month of February and their locations.
  4. What is meant by “The Present is the key to the Past”?
  5. Grand Canyon:
    1. How old?
    2. How was it formed – name the steps
  6. How do volcanic gases influence climate?
  7. What are some of the first life forms?
  8. Where would I find granite in the United States?
  9. Look at videos of Earth cycles.  Summarize each of them.

 

Hall of the Universe

1.      What is your weight on Saturn? Moon? Sun? Neutron Star? Jupiter?

2.      What are black holes?

3.      Name three types of galaxies.

4.      What is a star?
