AM: "NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies Educational Global Climate Model" with Mark Chandler and Steve Richards; and
PM: "Reading the Trees of the Lamont Campus Forest" (including training for Open House trail guides)

Our first program will feature the Educational Global Climate Change model created by NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies. Dr. Mark Chandler and Steve Richards will provide an overview of this student-oriented program. More information about the GISS EdGCM is found at http://www.edgcm.org/

In the afternoon, we’ll take a walk through the Lamont campus forest to observe some aspects of dendrochronology (tree rings) and ecological succession reflecting climate changes. This walk is based on the work of Dr. Neil Peterson, who recently left LDEO to become a professor at Eastern Kentucky University. An online version of these ideas is available at http://www.earth2class.org/docs/lamont%20walk.pdf.
