These are less than 1 meter long cores taken from a "Multi-Corer" that takes up to 8 cores on the same drop. The image on the left was taken right after the core was opened. On the right is what remains after intense sampling to produce what we call "high resolution" data necessary for resolving short-term climate such as in the Little Ice Age.
