Virtual Classroom

Workshop Home

The Virtual Classroom is where we will build a shared collaboration space for  interactions in between workshops.

There are several free collaboration tools available on the web. We will be working with Yahoo! Groups, as it is a free online tool that only requires that you have internet access and an email program.

If you have never used this type of tool before, you should start by reading the basic information in the Help Section: http://help.yahoo.com/help/groups/ .

Here we will have several interesting features to use. You can:

• Post messages to all members of the class (group).

• Share Files (upload and download files from different members of the group).

• Set up online meetings using the shared group Calendar.

• Use Chat (this is for the more technology brave... the tool still needs improvement).

• Share Links.

• Share Photos.

• Create Polls to collect opinions.

• Create a common Database.

We will most likely be using basically the Post Messages feature. This can be done from the group website, or from your email. All messages will be posted both online and to your mailbox, for your convenience.

If you've never used Yahoo!, you will need to create a user profile (user name, password, and email address). You will only have access to the features for our group after you login. This is for security and privacy.
